Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.: Is he fitting to be the next president of our nation?

When we hear the name " Marcos," we think of dictators, martial law, and stolen wealth. That is something we frequently hear, and it elicits a wide range of responses. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos Jr., popularly known by his initials BBM, is a former senator from the Philippines who served from 2010 to 2016. He is the only son of Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. a Filipino politician and lawyer who served as the Philippines' 10th president from 1965 to 1986, and was largely regarded as a kleptocrat by academics, economists, and journalists., and former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos. Bongbong is a presidential contender from the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas for the 2022 election. What transpired in the past, during his father's rule, was brought to light as soon as he declared his confirmation to run for President. Past issues are being utilized against him. His degree has been called into question, and he is facing a slew of disqualification petitions. All of this was caused only by people's perceptions of one side of the true tale. Didn't it occur to us to learn more about him? Why do some people hate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos jr.?

It hasn't been long since people was astounded by the announcement of Mr. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., the Son of the late Philippine Dictator Ferdinand Marcos, his presidential candidacy for the year 2022. Indeed, in the past few years he has gained such popularity and trust from our fellow countrymen. Even he is currently establishing programs that plans to aid local communities in certain problems and aspects. However, mixed voices are heard as people from the Martial Law era voiced out their protests against the campaign, since they still cannot forget the scenes of murder, imprisonment, and torture of thousands of Filipinos. We do admit that in those times, such unforgivable actions are committed, and trauma is not an actual thing that a person could be oblivious about even after many years has passed. As the saying goes, "history repeats itself", thus, people are just afraid, because we don't want to experience and feel again, the peril of one's dictatorship. Moreover, even Ms. Loretta Ann Rosales, a former chairwoman of the Commission on Human Rights and a political detainee who was detained and tortured during the Marcos era, goes on to say to the Associated Press, that Bongbong’s presidential bid “seeks to institutionalize the dark, corrupt and tyrannical legacy of his father and sabotage our efforts to exact full accountability from his family.” She further stated that “We must not allow him to use his family’s ill-gotten wealth to fund his presidential ambition, whitewash their crimes against the people and complete their quest for historical distortions,” These then, is giving us all the more reason to think of our approval of him. One source also said that, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., could also be in a position to run for president just for the testament to the power of money- in particular, inherited money- in Philippine politics.

The moral injunction behind it is that an innocent child cannot be blamed for the sins of the father. That is correct. Except that Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. cannot claim innocence. What Ferdinand Jr. can claim is the uncanny ability of deflecting issues hurled at him. His sleight of hand? Deny the accusation, blame someone else, and invoke selective moments of glory under his father’s presidency. Cue cheers from his loyalists.  Filipino activists, who were jailed, abused and tortured during late dictator Ferdinand Marcos’ martial law on Wednesday asked the Commission on Elections to disqualify his son and namesake from running for president next year, saying he may “whitewash” history and make it nearly impossible to recover plundered wealth.

At least 18 petitioners also expressed fears that Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. would make it hard for victims of his father’s dictatorship, who have not been compensated like thousands of others under reparation arrangements, to seek claims. The new petition cites the same grounds as an initial complaint filed by rights groups this month, which argued that Marcos Jr. has once been convicted of tax evasion and that he wrongfully stated in his candidacy papers that he had never been found liable for a criminal offence that can bar him from public office.

The latest petition to void Marcos’ candidacy was filed by Akbayan First Nominee Perci Cendaña, former Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Etta Rosales, lawyer Byron Bocar of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reforms, Akbayan Youth Chairperson Dr. RJ Naguit, Tition Lao-Manalo and Doris Nuval of Claimants 1081, Jean Enriquez of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, and Nice Coronacion of the Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa.

However despite all the cases they filed, Rodriguez said in a statement, “About the cases filed and are yet to be filed against Marcos, we believe that this is all part of the efforts to persecute Marcos by one group who have a naturally negative outlook in life, who have a heart full of hatred, and does not want the country to progress to a better tomorrow.”

Some people hate Marcos Jr. because of what his father did but some people hate him for the lies he came up with such as his academic records despite having evidences that proves the falsehood of his claims. We are very concern if he is suited to be the President especially that now he is caught red handed in lying.

Despite of all the reason not to choose BBM, President aspirant Ferdinand marcos or also known as BongBong Marcos has a plan about these pandemic, a higher budget for healthcare and medical research as part of his recovery plans. He calls it Tawid-Covid (Surviving Covid) program which would prioritize the improving conditions of frontline medical workers, including increased salaries and benefits. We are all aware that the medical workers especially the nurses, medtechs and other workers are not getting enough salaries to provide all their everyday necessity and allowances.

In his statement, marcos said that medical research needs more support to fight pandemic, bringing the need to strength our country’s main Covid-19 laboratory the Research Institute for topical medicine or RITM. RITM was created during the government of his late father in the year of 1980s.

Also University of the Philippines’ national Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), he sees that this should be strengthen. He included that our country must be able to produce its own vaccine. Only the vaccinated teachers in DepEd to be deploy to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 as he said on November 2, 2021.

The dictator's son has stated that the key to economic recovery following the epidemic is to promote micro, small, and medium companies (MSMEs) by vaccination their employees and allowing them to resume operations.

"If you look into the life of Filipinos, you'll notice that many are currently looking for work in order to support their families. "We need a broad strategy so that everyone benefits," Marcos remarked.

The Presidential Commission on Good Government is still hunting for P125 billion in Marcos' ill-gotten earnings to put into funds for Filipinos, particularly farmers and coco planters whose taxes were polluted by the late dictator and his cronies.

The president aspirant Bongbong Marcos for the upcoming presidential race on May 2022 “is about the future of the Filipino people.

In that case, upon considering all the facts, the logical conclusion seems to be intricate on how many people loathe Ferdinand Romualdez “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. with these predicaments that has already been done. It is also stated that he is the executor of all his father’s wealth and it seems that he have several virtuous schemes for the country and for humanity that may concerned that he would "whitewash" history and make it almost impossible to reclaim stolen cash. Along with that, it is perceptible that we can’t halt or force someone to loathe him prior to their own credence in him. Through those many accusations from Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. about the stolen wealth, it is controversial where as the saying goes “Dahil, ang kasalanan ng tatay ay hindi naman siguro kasalanan ng anak” (Because the sins of the father should not be blamed on his child) and with the antithesis of “history repeats itself”; it is conspicuous that this is also one of the reasons why some individuals have the dubiety on Marcos to govern for our country. So, upon exploring the situation from multiple perspectives, the accusations about the past will depends on how the son of Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr. will address it for today’s situation on compelled Commission on Elections run for President of the Philippines.
